The old order. During the period of African Slave trade, the relationship between Europe and Africa was based on exploitation, hostility and lack of mutual benefits. Initially, Africa was on the losing side, while Europe gained immensely. However, through the centuries, a relationship of "give-and-take" naturally established itself.
