Arms deals in Africa for blood diamonds.

- Arms deals for African diamonds are, reportedly, the main causes of rebel wars in Africa.
- Arms dealers from Europe, and their African collaborators benefit from the trade.
- The arms industries in Europe also benefit greatly, because the trade creates employment opportunities and also contributes towards economic growth through the incomes or revenue from the sales of arms.
- Poverty, ignorance, selfishness and hatred encourage Africans to fight and kill their brothers, sisters, etc on massive scale.
- Spot the difference, if there is any, between the arms deals in Africa and the African slave trade?
-Internal politics, tribal differences, civil unrest and conflicts are used as cover-up by the Western arms dealers to explain the causes of brutal wars in Africa.

Effects of the arms deals

- The legacy of Sierra Leone rebel war.
- The decade of brutal rebel war in Sierra Leone and Liberia, in West Africa, left a negative legacy of amputees (legs, feet, hands, fingers etc cut off).
- There is no need to mention the loss of lives and property during the war.

- The result of arms deals in Africa.
- Poor and innocent children also became victims (amputees).
- Their own sufferings remain the most unfortunate, pathetic and unforgetable aspect of human history, because children will live longer with this legacy of mental torture.
- Peace and reconciliation are one way for such victims to forgive their enemies; but they cannot forget the pain and the struggle to get life going.


The role of Western Governments, etc:
1. Refugees and Asylum Seekers

- Western governments, Refugee and Human Rights organisations, especially the British Government, provide support to people who flee from wars in their countries.

- The European tax payers normally bear the financial and other costs of upkeeping the refugees and asylum seekers, who live on state benefits in European countries.
Some of the European tax payers tend to be unhappy about this.
This is one negative effect of European arms deals in Africa, and something needs to be done to stop the acts.

- Tony Blair's labour government of Britain played a major role in ending the decade's rebel war in Sierra Leone in 2002.

- The history of Africa is never complete without mentioning the role of Britain. The relationship is historic.

2. Dilema of the Europe

- While some European countries strive to stop the arms conflicts in Africa, can they also stop the arms deals that create problems in Africa?
